We’ve been busy! Lots going on around BC and Western Canada. Here are a few examples…

Introducing BC AgriWeather: A New Agricultural Weather Network

In partnership with the BC Ministry of Agriculture, we’re building a robust agricultural weather monitoring network across British Columbia. With nearly 250 weather stations across BC, BC AgriWeather provides real-time weather conditions, historical data, and specialized tools to help farmers, researchers, and decision-makers access vital meteorological insights.

Visit bcagriweather.ca to explore:

  • Up-to-date weather reports tailored for agriculture
  • Extensive historical datasets for in-depth climate analysis
  • Advanced tools designed to enhance agricultural planning

We’re expanding our network by adding new weather stations to fill in crucial monitoring gaps—ensuring BC’s farming communities have the best possible weather intelligence at their fingertips.

Ensuring Safe Irrigation Water with the Delta Farmers Institute

In collaboration with the Delta Farmers Institute (DFI), we’re working to track and manage the salinity levels of irrigation water across the Delta region. Maintaining optimal water quality is crucial for ensuring safe irrigation water, and this initiative is designed to provide farmers with real-time insights into salinity fluctuations.

The network features 25 real-time salinity monitoring stations, strategically positioned throughout the region to ensure comprehensive coverage. Farmers, researchers, and water managers can access this valuable data anytime at deltafarmersinstitute.ca, enabling informed decisions that protect crops and soil health.

Advancing Crop Management with Soil Moisture Sensors

We’re hard at work installing soil moisture sensors across a diverse range of crops, including potatoes, blueberries, cranberries, vegetables, forage, and hazelnuts. These sensors provide real-time data to help farmers optimize irrigation, conserve water, and enhance crop health—all essential factors for sustainable and productive agriculture.

By closely monitoring soil moisture levels, growers can make data-driven decisions that improve yield quality, reduce environmental impact, and adapt to changing climate conditions. This initiative supports BC’s agricultural community by ensuring that farms have the precision tools needed to manage water resources effectively.
